CMS HCAL plans to replace the existing Hybrid Photo Diodes in the outer layer of CMS Hadron calorimeter (HO) with Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). The plan is to perform this operation during the long LHC shutdown currently planned for year 2012, although it seems very probable that it will be delayed to 2013.
